Pit Bull has Bad Image

Let's be honest. We all know that the public perception of Pit Bulls is that it’s a dangerous breed. Admittedly that perception wasn't just grabbed out of the air. There are real valid reasons why people feel the way they do about Pit Bulls. A Google search for Pit Bull attacks reveals 844,000 pages including some video to reinforce fear of the breed. That in itself is alarming so let's not fool ourselves that as loving as our pet may seem it can have the potential for improper response (to say it nicely).

While other breeds also have potential for 'improper response' it's often the suddenness and fierceness of the Pit Bull attack that gets public and media attention (especially if someone is injured or killed). While it is believed the Pit Bull has locking jaws some dispute that is true but regardless when a dog bites down on something and doesn't let go easily it may as well have locking jaws.

Since public perception is not favorable toward Pit Bulls what should an owner do? The answer remains the same as always. A Pit Bull pet owner should be a responsible owner. That means insuring a safe fenced in area. Walking with a leash when outside a confined area. Owners should properly train their Pit Bull to minimize aggressive or disobedient behavior. It also goes without saying visit the vet to make sure your pet has the rabies shot. When all of these precautions have been taken, there is nothing more that can be expected of a Pit Bull pet owner, bad perception or not.
